About Olivia Kirk
"I specialise in designing healing and therapeutic gardens, particularly for hospices having worked with over 25 hospices throughout the UK since qualifying 16 years ago. After researching and designing a Low Allergen garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower show in 2010 for the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit I had a eureka moment. Healing and therapeutic gardens need to have low allergen planting to reduce unnecessary discomfort and stress to patients that already have enough to deal with.
In the intervening 10 years I have learned much about this little known or documented area of planting design, finding that pollen and food allergies are closely linked and taking a toll on our increasingly over-loaded immune systems which are struggling to keep up with modern life. My aim in writing this course is to give the necessary tools and knowledge to be able to create a garden that functions well and looks beautiful without causing discomfort or distress.”
